World Heritage Youth Ambassadors Traineeship Header
Our trainees support the delivery of the Young Ambassadors programme locally, in Blaenavon and up to a national level. You will teach other young people about World Heritage and have a voice in managing World Heritage Sites.

You will be registered with a training organisation, who will deliver on site training on a variety of topics and also participate in the Youth Ambassadors evening youth group.

Our trainees will also participate and gain the World Heritage Youth Ambassadors Short Course where You will learn about World Heritage, why it is important, the different sites and most importantly, develop your own personal skills such as employability, independent learning and teamwork skills.

You will have the opportunity to travel around the UK and visit the World Heritage sites such as the Cornwall and West Devon mining landscape, Blaenavon Industrial Landscape, Bath City and The Tower of London, to name a few! There are lots of fun and interesting activities to get involved in.

Times

Engagement Traineeships:
21 hours per week for 8 -10 weeks.

Traineeship:
30 hours per week for up to 24 weeks.

The traineeships start at 21 hours per week. This usually consists of 2 days 9.00-3.30 (choice between Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday) and 12:00-20:00pm on a Wednesday which incorporates the Wednesday night YAMS club.

After 8- 10 weeks, you have the option to ‘upgrade’ to a full traineeship. This is 30 hours a week.

Pay

Engagement Traineeships:
£30-£40/week for 21 hours / week.

Traineeship:
£50/week and 30 hours.

Am I eligible?

  • I am between 16- 20.
  • I am not in school, college, training, or employment.
  • I can travel to Blaenavon (travel expenses are available)
  • I can commit to a minimum of 8 weeks.
  • I am free during the week 9am – 5pm and on a Wednesday evening 5pm – 9pm.

Application Process

1. To apply for a traineeship first check your whether you meet the eligibility criteria in our FAQs.

2. Download our application form and email or post it back to us. From the time you post the application form to the time you could start, we hope that no more than 3 weeks will have passed, although starting date is negotiable.

3. We will contact you within 2 weeks of receiving your application form. You will have an informal phone chat with one of our staff talking you through the program.

4. If you still wish to proceed, we will initiate the process to register you with our training provider Sguiliau. You will need to provide the following documentation:

  • Passport / driving licence
  • National insurance number
  • Proof of address (formal letter with YOUR name and address on it)

5. We will then give you a start date.

You may start before you are fully registered with the training provider; however, you are unable to be paid until the registration is completed. Once registered, all pay however will be backdated from your start date.

You will start on an engagement traineeship for 21 hours per week for a minimum of 8 weeks. If you complete this, you are able to ‘upgrade’ to the full traineeship at 30 hours a week.

What does it cost?

Nothing, everything is totally free, including any travel
 and residentials! We are funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Engagement Traineeships:
£30 – £40/week for 21 hours/week

Traineeships:
£50/week for 30 hours/ week.

Can I go straight to the full traineeship?

No, unless you have already completed an engagement traineeship with Sguiliau.

Do I need any prior experience?

Absolutely not! We will give you all the skills and knowledge you need!

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Yes, a packed lunch. We will provide everything else you might need.
After an induction period, you will be given free kit (hoody, t-shirt).
